Overview about Faculty of Nursing

The Faculty of Nursing at Tanta University has begun its educational mission under the name of the Higher Institute of Nursing in 1982, based on the decision of the Prime Minister No. 642 of 1976, which stipulated a study period of four years and an additional year of internship.
Upon completion, students graduate as nursing supervisors holding a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing Science.
The actual study at the institute began in the academic year 1982/1983.
Recognizing the importance of nursing as one of the vital and essential specialties in providing healthcare services to patients, and as the largest sector of human health resources needed to meet the requirements of healthcare facilities at the level of all governorates in the country, as well as regionally and globally.
A presidential decree No. 200 of 2000 was issued, transforming the institution into the Faculty of Nursing.
Since that time, the faculty has been striving to achieve quality performance in the educational process, excellence, and competitiveness in the local and regional job markets.
Male students were also admitted to the faculty in the Bachelor’s degree program starting from the academic year 2010-2011.
Additionally, the faculty was accredited by the National Authority for Quality Assurance and Accreditation of Education after meeting the national standard criteria, as per the decision of the Authority's Board of Directors No. 191 on 15/7/2019.
The faculty was also ISO 9001:2015 / ISO 21001:2018 certified on 24/1/2023, and the certification was renewed in February 2024.
Faculty that consists of the following academic departments:



- Medical Surgical and Critical Care Nursing
- Obstetric and Gynecological Nursing
- Pediatric Nursing
- Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing
- Nursing Administration
- Community Health Nursing

These are six academic educational departments that undertake the responsibility of teaching students in the Bachelor’s degree. They do not grant specialized scientific degree at Bachelor’s level, i.e. a student graduates as General Nursing Specialist. However, they grant specialized scientific degree at postgraduate level.

It is innovation and excellence at the local and regional levels in fields of education, learning, scientific research, community service and environmental development.

Tanta Faculty of Nursing seeks to create an active scientific environment that participates in graduating distinguished cadres in the field of nursing sciences able to compete in the labor market on the local and regional levels. Further, the Faculty contributes to providing health services to the society and supporting innovative scientific research within the framework of the values and attitudes of the society through modern educational programs according to accredited academic standards.
