Aims of the Department
The Department aims to offer educational programs that prepare cadres of students who are able to present comprehensive nursing care to woman in all ages and at all conditions of health and illness that is based on analyzing and identifying physical, psychological and environmental needs of woman, family and society using information and recent technology through applying theories and research of nursing, basic, social and human sciences as foundation of professional nursing practice. It aims to prepare graduates distinguished at presenting nursing health care to improve health of woman, family and community to prevent complications of diseases that may occur during reproductive period of women and during different stages of their lives.
Objectives of the Department are summarized as follows:
To study physical, psychological and social aspects affecting woman's life through:
• Studying anatomy of the internal and external reproductive system and physiology.
• Studying of women’s health condition during the reproductive period which includes pregnancy, childbirth, puerperium, gynecological diseases and neonatal care. Nursing is applied through focusing on health care.
• Studying the reproductive system, woman’s medical care and common gynecological diseases in terms of causes, methods of infection and spread, symptoms, treatment and complications.
• Studying all new findings in nursing of gynecology and obstetrics and applying this knowledge when needed.
• Improving mother’s and embryo’s health during pregnancy and providing complete nursing care for them during different stages of pregnancy.
• Offering comprehensive health education to those who are going to be married.
• Presenting complete nursing care to mother and embryo during pregnancy.
• Providing mother with essential needs and nursing care during puerperium.
• Giving mothers health consultations about family planning methods.
• Applying results of current nursing evidence-based research to help reduce woman’s inconvenience during menopause.
